Julie Couture was born in Quebec City to an industrialist family whose primary business was recycling; she enjoyed growing up in the countryside where she developed an irreverent love and respect for nature and all of its beauty. She pursued the studies of art, theatre fashion and furniture design at American universities. Upon completion of her Master’s Degree in sculpture & drawing, she temporarily suspended her artistic career in order to devote herself to her children and her family business.
Although Julie never left behind her art, she became ever more drawn to photography, which she later studied at Concordia, in Montreal. Her passion for photography became undeniable. Julie transforms her images through transparency and layering, conveying the effects of urban and geo-ecological challenges in an ever-evolving world and the risks associated with its growth in order to accommodate global markets, leaving the viewer in a state of introspective contemplation.
