About
Artist photographer: Julie Couture
Born in Quebec City, Julie Couture grew up in the countryside, which instilled in her a deep love of nature. Over the years, she developed an interest in and curiosity about urban life.
Her academic path led her to American universities, where she studied the arts, costume design for theatre at St. Lawrence University, fashion at Parsons NYC, and furniture design at the Rhode Island School of Design. She earned a Master’s degree in sculpture and drawing from the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, where she received awards such as the Women’s Art Association of Canada prize.
Having found her medium, Julie has devoted herself entirely to photography since 2011, and has pursued further studies to refine her digital art techniques at Concordia University.
Her captivating images are transformed and reconstructed using techniques of transparency and fragmentation, recreating a sense of depth through her vision of a constantly evolving world.
The reputation of Julie’s photographic work has grown through solo exhibitions at Scott Yetman Design, Vilaine Victoire, and other group collaborations. In addition to more than a hundred private clients, she has also received commissions to create custom works for Louwana Creek, Pier 2, the Pomerleau Group (a unique piece entitled Lignes Portantes, measuring 66 feet by 7 feet), as well as the hotel group Germain Hotels and the firm Lemay Michaud Architecture Design for the production of artworks for Hôtel Le Germain Ottawa.
